Nausea/Vomiting/Diarrhea

Nausea is a feeling of uneasiness in the stomach that often occurs before vomiting. Vomiting is the forced emptying of the stomach’s contents through the mouth. While nausea and vomiting are not diseases, they may be symptoms of numerous health conditions.

Treatment for Nausea/Vomiting/Diarrhea

In mild cases, these symptoms can often be treated at home. Eating small, bland meals throughout the day, avoiding hard-to-digest foods, staying hydrated with small amounts of clear liquids, and resting in a sitting position can all help to lessen symptoms. If a patient is still struggling with symptoms we can help by prescribing medications to help with nausea and vomiting. We also have IV hydration

If you are experiencing the following symptoms, seek medical attention ASAP:

  • If home treatment is not effective or you are dehydrated
  • If vomiting or diarrhea has lasted more than 24 hours
  • There is blood in vomit or stool
  • A severe headache or stiff neck
  • Lethargy or confusion

We are often asked if we can treat people over the phone for treating nausea in Novi MI. While some conditions may permit a telemed visit, most ailments are better diagnosed when we can put our eyes on our patients. Most conditions are common but we can often find something on an exam that may point us in a direction to a better diagnosis.

One of the things we take pride in is that we make sure to communicate with your primary provider when we make a diagnosis or get closer to figuring out why you have your current symptoms. After your visit we will send over any results we have from tests that we perform and any paperwork that will help your primary doctor continue to care for you. We understand what it means to be patient centered!
