Bacterial skin infections generally start with a break in the skin from an injury or bite. Bacteria invades, causing red, swollen, painful, warm skin. Sometimes drainage or foul odor will develop. When a pocket of infection forms under the skin, this is called an abscess.

Fungal skin infections often develop in skin folds or covered areas on the body. Generally the skin will be itchy, dry, red, and peeling or scaling.

Can we treat skin infections over the phone?

We are often asked if we can treat skin infections over the phone. While some conditions may permit a telehealth visit, most ailments are better diagnosed when we can put our eyes on our patients. Most conditions are common — but we can often find something on an exam that points us toward a better diagnosis. Come in and let us take a look.

One of the things we take pride in is making sure we communicate with your primary provider when we make a diagnosis. After your visit we will send over any results from tests we perform and any paperwork that will help your primary doctor continue to care for you.
